Eric M. Westbury is the President, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of SBM Financial Group. He directs all of SBM’s business lines with a special focus on real estate and investment management. He also serves as Chairman of SBM’s registered investment companies.

Mr. Westbury joined SBM’s predecessor company, 1st Atlantic Guaranty Corporation, in 1999 as Executive Vice President for its real estate investment operations. In 2000 he became President and CEO of SBM Financial. In 2003 he acquired several of the financial services businesses that comprise SBM today. Since then, he has overseen the development of new business lines and undertaken larger investment projects.

Mr. Westbury began his professional career as a commercial banker with NCNB (now Bank of America) in Charlotte, NC, in 1985 and later transferred to Charleston, SC, where he was a banker specializing in corporate finance and commercial real estate. In 1989 he joined First Union National Bank (now Wachovia) in Charleston, heading its statewide Urban/Community Banking Group, and later held various positions in private, commercial and consumer banking in Washington, DC. By the end of his nine-year tenure with First Union, he supervised all commercial and consumer banking activities for the bank’s $2.5 billion Washington, DC operations.

Before joining SBM’s predecessor company, Mr. Westbury served as President and Chief Operating Officer of The Washington Development Group, a DC-based real estate development company. There, he directed the overall operation and management of 14 real estate affiliates and all of the company’s financing and banking activities.

Mr. Westbury is a graduate of South Carolina State University, where he earned a BA in accounting and management. He serves on several non-profit boards and is active in numerous community development initiatives.

 

William M. Baker is the Chief Financial Officer of SBM Financial Group. In that role, he oversees the company's finance, accounting and treasury activities. Mr. Baker brings a 30-year professional career with an impressive record of senior management accomplishments in financial services, telecommunications and high technology. He has had substantial experience with publicly traded companies and multinational operations, as well as with development stage companies and turnarounds. In addition, Bill has assisted in raising almost $4 Billion in the capital markets through private placements, stock and bond offerings, credit facilities and vendor financings.

Prior to joining SBM Financial Group, Mr. Baker held a variety of financial positions where he was responsible for developing all of the required financial and accounting systems and policies and procedures, including timely implementations of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Bill was the Chief Financial Officer for the first major U.S. urban CATV system and his background includes financial management responsibilities for controlling over $10 Billion of capital expenditures for the engineering, construction, and start-up of various telecommunications ventures. Mr.Baker's credentials also include considerable experience with investment bankers and venture capital firms in the IPO and M&A arenas.

Mr. Baker received his Bachelors Degree in Management Science from Duke University and a Masters of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance from Rutgers University.

 

Dia H. Snowden is Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of SBM Financial Group. In that role, she oversees the company’s administrative operations, including enterprise management, information technology and human resources. She also supervises administrative operations at SBM’s face-amount certificate investment companies, including Certificateholder Services.

Ms. Snowden joined SBM’s predecessor company in 2000 as Director of Administration and later became Vice President. In addition, she currently serves as Secretary of SBM’s face-amount certificate companies.

Ms. Snowden began her career in 1983 in the accounting department at Howard University. In 1987 she joined TDC Management Corp. as a Senior Staff Accountant, and over the next 14 years served in four progressively challenging roles in finance, real estate development, construction and property management.

Ms. Snowden graduated from Rutgers University with a BS degree in psychology and management.

 

Phillip Brady Hayden is Vice President of Capital Management and Portfolio Manager for SBM Financial Group. Since 2003, Mr. Hayden has managed the securities portfolios of SBM's registered investment companies, which invest primarily in fixed income, equity and real estate securities. Additionally, Mr. Hayden oversees new business initiatives for the firm's investment management products.

Mr. Hayden joined SBM’s predecessor company, 1st Atlantic Guaranty Corporation, in 1998 as part of its original management team and helped establish its face-amount certificate business. In 2000 he joined the New York office of Deloitte & Touche as a Consulting Manager in the firm’s investment management practice. He served in a contract position as a Senior Risk Manager with FleetBoston Financial Corp. before returning to SBM in 2003.

Mr. Hayden began his post-graduate career in 1995 as an analyst with Shepherd Financial, a Tennessee-based money manager specializing in socially responsible investing.

Mr. Hayden graduated from Lipscomb University with a BS in finance-economics and received his MBA in public policy and finance from the William E. Simon Graduate School at the University of Rochester. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the Washington Society of Investment Analysts.

 

Ronald H. Geiger is Senior Relationship Manager for SBM Financial Group’s Investment Products division. He is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with outside broker-dealers, and serves as primary contact for all registered representatives and advisers.

Mr. Geiger has the longest tenure of any manager with the SBM organization, having joined predecessor company State Bond and Mortgage Company of Minnesota in 1981. He began as an internal auditor, rising through the ranks as accounting manager and later Assistant Vice President for the mutual funds and life insurance division. In 1993 he became Vice President and Branch Manager of the firm’s broker-dealer, where he supervised the customer service and producer services departments that support SBM Certificate Company.

In 2000, Mr. Geiger was an integral part of the transitional process surrounding 1st Atlantic Guaranty Corporation’s purchase of SBM Certificate Company from ARM Financial Group. Following the acquisition, he assumed his current role with successor firm SBM Financial.

Mr. Geiger graduated from South Central College with a degree in accounting. He serves on numerous community and advisory boards.

 

Connie J. McCalop is Director of Human Resources of SBM Financial Group. In this role, Ms. McCalop is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and evaluation of the Human Resources function. She oversees the firm’s compliance with federal and state regulations in all areas of employment and government reporting, and ensures that SBM’s policies, practices and processes are conducted fairly. She is also responsible for the administration of health and welfare plans as well as recruitment and retention.

Ms. McCalop began her career in human resources with Duke University. She later relocated to the Washington Metro area, where she worked for 12 years as the HR Director for the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. After a brief retirement, she worked as an independent HR consultant. She came to SBM as a part-time HR Coordinator prior to becoming full-time in September 2003.

Ms. McCalop attended Fayetteville State University. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and is a member of the Melwood Business Advisory Counsel.
